چکیده

INTRODUCTION Vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) caused by osteoporosis are an increasingly common occurrence. The annual incidents of vertebral fractures in Europe among elderly (50–79) are estimated at 1.1% for women and 0.6% for men, while epidemiologic studies foresee an increase of these numbers in the future [1]. Approximately 85% of these fractures are due to primary osteoporosis and the remainder due to secondary osteoporosis or malignancies [2]. These VCFs lead to progressive sagittal spinal deformity and changes in spine biomechanics. Patients diagnosed with a prevalent vertebral fracture are susceptible to further trauma in adjacent spine levels, with a fivefold increased risk [3,4].

Stress Analysis of the Human Ligamentous Lumber Spine-From Computer-Assisted Tomography to Finite Element Analysis

Detailed investigation on biomechanics of a complex structure such as the human lumbar spine requires the use of advanced computer-based technique for both the geometrical reconstruction and the stress analysis. In the present study, the computer-assisted tomography (CAT) and finite element method (FEM) are merged to perform detailed three dimensional nonlinear analysis of the human ligamentous...

Kinesio Taping Applied to Lumbar Muscles in Static Lumbar Flexion

Purpose: In approaching full trunk flexion (75%-80% of full flexion), myoelectric activity of lumbar erector spinae muscles is reduced or silenced; this response is known as flexion-relaxation phenomenon (FRP). FRP is a shift in load sharing and spinal stabilization from active structures (erector spinae muscles) to passive ligamentous and articular structures. Static lumbar flexi...

An ex vivo evaluation of an inflatable bone tamp used to reduce fractures within vertebral bodies under load.

STUDY DESIGN Ex vivo biomechanical study using osteoporotic cadaveric vertebral bodies. OBJECTIVE To determine if fracture reduction could be achieved by the inflatable bone tamp (tamp) in vertebral bodies under simulated physiologic loads. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Previous ex vivo biomechanical studies showed that kyphoplasty restored vertebral body height with vertebral body endplates u...

Treatment of 44 Cases With Lumbar Spine Stenosis and Degenerative Instability: Outcomes of Surgical Intervention

Background and Aim: Degenerative lumbar spine disease can lead to lumbar spine instability. The patients can present with Low Back Pain (LBP), radicular pain, and motor and sensory dysfunction. Age >50, female sex and pregnancies are among prevalent risk factors. The degeneration process usually starts from the intervertebral discs progressing to involve facet joints, ligaments, and vertebral b...

Comparison of the lumbosacral angles in state of standing on the various slopes, in the healthy and low back pain females

This study aim to investigate the effect of different slops on mechanical lumbosacral angles and lumbar stability of healthy and mechanical low back pain (LBP) persons. This case- control study was performed on 38 females (18 LBP and 20 healthy subjects) who were referred to the Hospital in sari. At the beginning, Subjects’demographic data were recorded. In order to measure lumbosacral angles a...
